Office of Police Integrity Title: Framework and Guide for Responding to Critical Incidents or Deaths Associated with Victoria Police Contact Summary: This document sets out the framework established by the Office of Police Integrity (OPI) following the publication in June 2011 of OPI’s report Review of the investigative process following a death associated with police contact. It is based on the findings of that report and the input of the range of stakeholders who contributed to OPI’s project which resulted in the report. The framework reflects protocols established between OPI and Victoria Police which have been in operation since 2010. This document incorporates lessons learnt from OPI’s experience since that time. OPI will monitor and review police investigations into critical incidents and deaths associated with police contact, having regard to ensuring public confidence in police ethical and professional standards and building the capacity of Victoria Police to handle such matters in the future.
